The Flat Mandolin
Our version of the 1918 "Army-Navy" style mandolin is crafted from Appalachian Black Walnut with some surprisingly sophisticated features. "X" braced with a lightly radiused Sitka Spruce top, this instrument holds its shape while projecting a sweet, clear tone at a surprising volume level. For comfort, we make the fingerboards with larger "banjo" frets and Grover tuners. The result is a sweet, sturdy, instant heirloom that should last for generations. This instrument, while minimal in complexity, has been very carefully designed for the woodworker of intermediate experience to complete in seven days.
