Moving Forward
The Appalachian Artisan Center has as its mission to build and strengthen an arts-based economic sector in the Appalachian counties of Kentucky. This gives the AAC a dual purpose--to promote economic development through the arts and to increase community access to the artistic heritage of the region.
The mission of the Appalachian School of Luthiery is to provide, under the guidance of a master luthier, of quality instruction in the art of making fine musical instruments. The mission of the Troublesome Creek Stringed Instrument Company is to then provide meaningful jobs for these skilled artisans. Most of these individuals are in recovery, and we are fully committed to helping them stay the course.
The full stringed instrument factory, Troublesome Creek Stringed Instruments is also located in Hindman. The factory not only makes mountain dulcimers but also guitars, mandolins, banjolyns and other custom stringed instruments.
